A HUMP IN THE ROAD FOR THE HEMP GRANDPA

In February, we were supposed to launch a Grandpa Longsleeve made with 70% organic cotton and 30% hemp. A garment based on natural materials, meant to be a stronger alternative to our wool and silk Grandpa Longsleeve. Hemp, known for its durability and more environmentally friendly cultivation, is usually produced far from Norway. Now, we had found a manufacturer in Lithuania cultivating this in Europe. All the boxes had been ticked off, and we were set to start production. Unfortunately, we didn't get that far.

The reason? In all processes, we receive samples of the garments to undergo tests for wear and wash. If satisfied, we give a "go" to the factory, but this time it didn't go as planned. After our tests, we noticed the garments twisted and simply shrank too much during washing. We can't stand behind a garment that loses its shape and fit after normal use.

These tests are a vital part of our design philosophy and ensure that we can stand tall and say our garments are designed for extensive use. We embrace humps in the road rather than driving straight over them or smoothing them out. For us, this is what slow fashion is all about.
