CareRemoving sunscreen from wool

Avobenzone is a normal ingredient in sun screen. When this sets in your clothes and gets in contact with the iron in water, rust colored stains may appear. The best idea is to steer clear of this chemical to avoid stains. But if they are already there, there are a few methods to try and remove them. Baking soda works well on wool for example.

Here's how you do it:

  • Drizzle baking soda over the stain
  • Let the powder sit for 30 minutes to suck up the worst of the oils
  • Brush off the powder and rub dish soap on the stain
  • Let this mixture sit for five minutes
  • Dry off the excess with a moist towel

Lemon and salt is another good alternative, but we suggest testing this on a small, less visible area first. The lemon can bleach the color of the garment.

Here's how you do it:

  • Rinse the stain in cold water
  • Squeeze some lemon juice on the stain
  • Pour salt on top
  • Let this lie overnight
  • Was the garment as you normally would
