ORGANIC WOOL
The Grandpa longsleeve is made with organic wool and silk. That means that there are strict requirements that need to be met throughout the entire value chain. Toxic chemicals are not used, the wool is mulesing-free and the garments are not treated with Superwash or other similar treatments, to name a few examples. Read more about why we use organic wool and its advantages here.

CLASSIC DESIGN
A key part of our design philosophy is that we don't care about trends. We design clothes that we genuinely believe will look good in 2, 10 and 100 years. Our goal is to design classics. Every. Time. That also means that our clothes have clean and simple designs, come in timeless colors and come without big logos and illustrations.

The Grandpa longsleeve is one of these classics. It was hot 30 years ago and will be just as hot for the next 30 years (at least!).

BUTTONS
The buttons on the grandpa longsleeve are made with wood from Portuguese olive trees (that have stopped producing olives). The wood from olive trees is so strong that these buttons don't need to be treated. In other words: A completely natural product.

THE STORY
The Grandpa longsleeve was one of Northern Playground's first products. The background for the idea was pretty random; we had way too much Ziplongs® material on our hands and had to find something else to use it for. All of a sudden the Grandpa longsleeve was a permanent part of our collection. Luckily, there have been som design changes since then.

(Pictured is the first version of the Grandpa longsleeve.)

WARNING
Okay, perhaps “warning” sounds a bit dramatic, but even though this is just a garment (and not a chainsaw), incorrect use of our wool and silk clothing can impact your experience.

How so? Well, the product is made from thin natural materials – wool and silk. It’s designed to be extremely comfortable in all temperatures and activities, and to last a very long time. However, that doesn’t mean it can withstand everything. Thin wool has a downside: it’s not as durable as, say, thin polyester garments. To ensure it actually lasts, you need to be part of "the journey" and treat it a little differently than other clothes. Without care, it might actually have a significantly shorter lifespan.
