FATHER’S DAY FOR GAZA
This week, we’re doing something a little different. We’re donating all profits from the classic Father’s Day gifts – socks, boxers, hats, and Ziplongs – to the Red Cross’s relief efforts in Gaza.
Here’s why:
A while back, we put up a poster in our activist window:
“It’s never okay to bomb children.”
A simple message. But over time, we’ve found ourselves asking more and more often: Can we do more?
Many of us feel powerless watching what’s happening. At the same time, we know that through our work, we actually can make a small difference. We (Kasia and Adrian) have been pushing the management for months about exactly that.
Marita and Jo have been supportive, but also cautious. It’s not always easy to find actions that make sense when our company has no direct link to the conflict. If we sold clothes in the area, or had other ties there, we could have made a clear statement. And it’s understandable that the management wants Northern Playground to stay focused on our main battles: the environment, clothing, and consumption. We get that.
But we’ve also been impatient; if we’ve said A, we also have to say B. And finally, we agreed on a plan.
From today until Father’s Day, November 9th, all profits from sales of socks, boxers, hats, and Ziplongs will go to the Red Cross’s efforts to rebuild Gaza. This applies to both online sales and our store in Oslo.
It won’t change the world. But every small action matters. And hopefully, this will work as a Father’s Day gift – that dads will be happy to receive something physical, that also carries a bit of meaning – right here and now.
Wishing you a Father’s Day that’s about more than gifts,
Kasia and Adrian
