The story
The inspiration for the Løkka beanie came from us wanting to create a rebel. Millions of people walk around with beanies made on the other side of the planet, by underpaid workers we can't see, with materials and chemicals we don't know anything about and often in a quality that just isn't good enough. How can we challenge this whole system?

With the Løkka beanie, we are showing that we can make the world's most awesome beanie locally, right here in Norway.

Mohair wool from Telemark, Norway
In Telemark in Norway, mohair goats run around in the mountains and fields. Mohair wool is very soft and very durable. The small company Telespinn, spins the wool to yarn, adding in a small amount of merino wool (from South Africa/Australia). Finally, they color the yarn and send it to us in Grünerløkka in Oslo.

Made in Oslo
In Grünerløkka, the beanies are knitted by women who (until recently) have been unemployed. They are now employed by us via Laget, Quo Vadis. Quo Vadis is a communal workspace for adult immigrants with little or no education from their home country. Fall of 2020, two women are employed to knit our beanies. Their salary comes from the sale of the beanies.

Local production
As a Norwegian company based in Oslo, one of our goals is to tie our value chain as close to ourselves and the market as possible. This is important for many different reasons – climate-wise and product-wise. Textile production today is mainly done in Asia by underpaid workers who do very repetitive work. Our dream is to revitalize a healthy textile industry close to it's market.
