DO WE HAVE TO DRESS IN OIL?
Is it raining cats and dogs? Then it’s pretty damn nice to have something that’s 100% waterproof for hours on end, like a shell jacket or traditional oilskins.
And by all means, clothes made from plastic (oil) have some seriously good qualities. We’re not here to knock them. They’re lightweight, can take a beating, and can be both windproof and waterproof. We use them ourselves (once in a blue moon).
But what about sunny days? Or a bit of drizzle? A hike in the woods without a weather forecast from hell? Does your jacket really need to be made from oil?
We’re not so sure.
What we’re a little puzzled by is that plastic clothing has become the norm for all kinds of use, especially outdoor activities. Fortunately, the pendulum is starting to swing. More and more people are discovering just how comfortable and functional natural materials can be. They don’t leave you feeling clammy and wet from the inside in the same way, they feel much better against your skin, and they look better.
