The Chinos

If there's one thing that has been missing from our range, it's a classic, versatile pair of pants. Simply, The Chinos. With a history that spans 125 years, we are confident that this classic will withstand the test of time for at least another 125 years.

WHY CHINOS?
In recent years, we've expanded beyond base layers and focused on developing a strong selection of tops and jackets. Now the time has come to to pay some extra attention to the lower half of our customers' wardrobes. While we offer multiple outdoor pants, we've been missing a versatile option for everday wear. So, we decided to create a chino.

The reason we landed on chinos is simply because of their versatility. Chinos are the ultimate wardrobe staple, appropriate for pretty much everything from weddings to the crag. Now we want your input to help us develop the perfect pair.

DURABILITY
As always, durability is a key part of our design philosophy. Considering wear and tear is important when developing any pair of pants, but this becomes even more crucial when creating a pair of pants that can be worn for pretty much any occasion, and preferably every single day.

Therefore, it will be essential for us to choose a material that can withstand washing, abrasion, and movement while maintaining its shape and color over time. Additionally, we will be researching typical wear points on pants, and make sure that these areas are reinforced and easily repairable when needed.

HISTORY
With their military roots, chinos can be traced back to the American occupation of the Philippines in 1898, during the Spanish-American war. Instead of importing pants from the US, simple cotton pants were imported from China to save a buck. The soldiers dubbed them "pantalones chinos" (Chinese pants), and they quickly became part of the standard uniform of the US Army.

After World War II, soldiers brought took chinos into civilian life, and they quickly became a classic among everyone from preppy collecge students to non-conformists like Steve McQueen and James Dean. With their no-frills, vintage look, chinos have withstood the test of time and still have a firm place in all kinds of modern wardrobes.
