DEAR MARK
It’s over. We’re breaking up.
We’ve spent years, and millions, building our brand with ads on Facebook and Instagram. But the relationship has turned toxic. You’ve changed.
You’ve made our kids addicted to their screens. You’ve helped misinformation spread faster than truth. You’ve fueled polarization, dodged taxes, and turned people into products.
We can’t keep pretending this is love. So this is goodbye. Hopefully, we’ll be better off alone. The next few months we will not pay you a cent.
You won’t notice Northern Playground leaving, we’re only a small Norwegian clothing brand. But more and more companies are starting to think like we do.
Please, look in the mirror - or at least at your algorithm. You used to bring people together. Now you pull them apart.
And one last thing: Since we’re leaving Meta ads, we’ll lose touch with both new and old friends. A better way to stay in touch is through our newsletter. We write every week about how business can be a force for good. You might even find it inspiring. Please sign up too!
Good luck, Mark. It’s not us. It’s you.
P.S. If someone other than Mark Zuckerberg happens to read this letter - please, sign up too. This is the only way we can break up with him long term.
- Northern Playground
